House of Cards

I have been taking several online classes this summer and will post eventually about each. I am starting with a class in the Artful Gathering, called House of Cards by Mary Jane Chadbourne.  I took her other class in the same program called The Spoken Soul.  In that class we made inspirational cards using a variety of mixed media methods.  The House of Cards is a follow up class to create a box to hold the cards.

I used the house and feet that Mary Jane supplied in connection with the class, made by her husband.  I used gesso, tissue paper, old book pages, decorative paper, textured paper, Caran d’Ache Neocolor  II crayons, Inktense sticks, graphite, Stabilo All pencil, graphic images from Deviant Scrap artists: Tumble Fish Studios and itKuPiLLi, punchinella for stencil, wooden butterfly and ‘muse’ word from Pork Chop Show on Etsy, bee and bicycle rub ons from 7 Gypsies, stamp with writing, windows and door knob from Retro Cafe Art, Dina’s Mini Paint Lid stencil, Viva Pearl pens for the dots, guilder’s paste to grunge up the edges, and acrylic paint.

I really loved this project since it already fit my own style of working with vintage images.  I love using lots of color, creating contrast with the color by using bits of black and white, making the images pop from the background, creating a mood…all of it!
